This gallery includes just some of the many shots of Bill's shop and projects under construction. He built 11 engines in all in his garage workshop. Many of his projects were done without any plans other than a few scaled "take-offs" from either photos he took or from books on old steam engines.
His work often included designing pieces from scratch out of solid pieces of brass or steel. He also laid out the casting for drivers and trucks, designed and welded his own boilers and ran the hydro tests for the boiler inspectors. One of his most innovative designs included virtual, center-point, Baker Valve Gear.
Another of his first projects involved designing a duplex, cross compound air compressor to run his first engine, the Camas Prairie, an 2-8-0 Steam Engine. One little known fact is that his father was an investor and part owner of the Camas Prairie Railroad that ran between Orifino Idaho and Lewiston.
