Bill's Best Passengers |
This gallery includes many of his operating engines and his love for weekend steaming at layouts in Oregon, Washington, Canada and Idaho. Many of his friends had engines or layouts of their own at place such as Willow Creek, Tom Miller's, Shady Dell, Train Mountain and Golleta in California.
Bill
was often seen with his white Alaskan Husky, Pepe, riding in the number one seat behind him.
No one challenged Pepe for the "Shotgun" Seat.
They were great pals and spent many hours playing together. He later had Molly, who took over the #1 Passenger position after Pepe passed to the big switching yard in the sky. Bill and Pepe can now be seen steaming around the Heavens together.
Many of his good friends, Bas Pascoe, Jerry Ross, Tom Miller, Garry Johnson, Tom Nicholson, Elton Fest, Bob Fisher, Doug Edwards, John Turner, Barney Barningham, Mark Flitton, and Al Cole were also avid live steamers who built and operated their own engines as well as designing and building live steam model railroad parks throughout the Northwest and Canada. Thousands of children and adults continue to enjoy these parks that are operated on donations only.
The following is a partial list of the clubs and layouts he has visited or helped build:
- Willow Creek Railroad, Brooks, Oregon. Bill was a current member and consider this his home track. See also the SP&S 700 Club.
- Tom Miller's: 1.5 miles of track, the largest double track tresstle built for an 1/8 scale railroad.
- Pacific Northwest Live Steamers, Shady Dell Pacific Railroad, Mollala Oregon: 2 miles of track with extensive

- Train Mountain in Chiloquin Oregon, with 20 miles of track
- Golleta, California now in Santa Barbara, California
- Woodinville, Washington,
- Monroe, Washington
- Goldendale, Washington
